Helpful Hints - Flowers

Flowers will last longer if keep them in a cool spot (less than 70 degrees), away from direct sun, vents, drafts and heated surfaces such as TVs.

When you receive your flowers, mix floral food in water following directions on the package, and apply to flowers immediately and again on 3rd day. When mixed properly, floral food nourishes the flowers and inhibits growth of bacteria.

If your flowers are arranged in water, replace water that becomes cloudy. Recut stems by 1” and remove leaves below the waterline as they produce bacteria.

If your flower arrangement contains fruit, be aware that fruit produces ethylene gas, which spoils flowers a little faster.  Pine and some varieties of flowers also produce ethylene gas. The ethylene gas produced is not harmful to people.
